Read the contract!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before entering the portal, athletes need to understand: your current contracts still matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need clarity on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scholarship terms and what happens if you ENTER the portal (not just leave, there\u2019s a difference)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NIL obligations that may continue after transferring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Termination rights and whether you can exit cleanly (is there a FEE associated with me leaving)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic and eligibility requirements that follow you to your next school\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schools are generally NOT happy when their athlete hits the portal, so they tend not to do the athlete any favors and they do not make it easy to leave. A big negotiation point is \u201ctermination clauses\u201d or \u201cbuyout clauses\u201d. How much do I owe the school if i leave?
