Choosing an NIL agent is bigger than finding someone who can land deals. It’s about choosing someone who can protect your eligibility, your money, and your long‑term opportunities.

The reality is simple: in today’s NIL space, the title “agent” doesn’t mean much on its own. There’s no real barrier to entry and very little oversight, which puts the responsibility on the athlete to sort out who’s actually qualified.

If someone wants to guide you through NIL, they should understand more than branding. They should know the rules, the risks, the tax implications, the contract terms, and how the industry is evolving.

Before you sign with anyone, ask the questions that matter:

Do they understand the rules that apply to me, not just the marketing side

Are they registered where required and operating professionally

Can they clearly explain the contract they want me to sign

Do they have the capacity to support multiple athletes without shortcuts

Are our goals aligned, or are they chasing quick wins

Do they consistently act in my best interest

The wrong agent can create problems you never saw coming, eligibility issues, tax issues, contract issues. The right one feels like a partner who protects your present and positions your future.

Athletes deserve representation that’s competent, informed, and invested. Don’t settle for anything less.
